Editor’s Note: In 2003, the Society for Neuroscience initiated the Science Educator Award to recognize an outstanding neuroscientist who has made significant contributions to the education of the public (http://www.sfn.org/content/Programs/AwardsandPrizes/sea.html). The first recipient was Eric Chudler, PhD, at the University of Washington. For more on his activities, see http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/ehceduc.html. The winner for 2004 was Rochelle Schwartz-Bloom, PhD, at Duke University Medical Center. In collaboration with the Committee on Neuroscience Literacy, the Journal asked Dr. Schwartz-Bloom to give us some of her views on neuroscience education with the hope of spurring all of us into action.

Introduction: The present study aimed to explore protective mechanisms of hypothermia against mild cold and heat stress on highly proliferative homogeneous human Neural Precursor Cells (NPCs) derived from Subventricular Zone (SVZ) of human fetal brain. Methods: CD133+ve enriched undifferentiated and differentiated human NPCs were exposed to heat stress at 42°C. Then, Western-blot qua...
